Omega and Swatch launched a 1,969-piece MoonSwatch edition using 11 grams of recycled 1969-era gold. The model is sold only through an online application that closes July 21.
WiredOmega and Swatch released a limited-edition MoonSwatch called the Mission to the Moon 1969, Wired reported. The watch features a dial, hands, crown, and pushers made from Omega’s 18K Moonshine Gold alloy that together weigh 11 grams. The model commemorates the Apollo 11 moon landing on July 21, 1969.
Production is limited to 1,969 numbered pieces, each paired with a black-and-gold version of Swatch’s upgraded rubber MoonSwatch straps. The gold was taken from old Omega spare parts melted down in the company’s foundry and dates from around 1969. Swatch set the retail price at around $620 to match the 1969 cost of 11 grams of 18K gold, which was $11 at the time.
Buyers must complete an Electronic Swatch Timepiece Application containing 32 questions. Only 1,969 applicants will receive approval to purchase the watch online and collect it from a Swatch store. Applications close July 21 at 5:59 pm Eastern time.
