One Dead, Four Seriously Injured in Lake Michigan Boat Collision Near Chicago

One person died and four others were seriously injured when two boats collided on Lake Michigan near Monroe Harbor on June 25, according to the Chicago Fire Department. @ABC reported that the crash occurred about 1.5 miles from shore while both vessels were returning to port, with one overtaking the other.
Johanna H. Gregory, 26, was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as the person who died. The Chicago Fire Department said five of the 14 people involved were taken to hospitals in serious to grave condition, while nine refused treatment.
Three injured passengers went to Northwestern Hospital and two to Stroger Hospital.
The Coast Guard received notice of the collision at 11:44 p.m. from the Chicago Police Department. One boat carried nine passengers and the other five, with ages ranging from 18 to 26. Lake conditions did not appear to contribute to the crash.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident, and the cause remains under review.
