One Nation Leader Says No Preference Deal Yet With Liberals for Secret Harbour Byelection

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson said a preference deal with the Liberal Party has not been finalized for the upcoming Secret Harbour byelection. She added that the party plans to place Labor and the Greens last on its preference list. Hanson spoke after a business breakfast hosted by The West Australian.
She expressed hope that One Nation could work with the Liberals and Nationals to win the seat from Labor.
Hanson described mining executive Gina Rinehart as "a wonderful West Australian" and defended the billionaire's support for One Nation. She cited taxes, royalties, and jobs provided by Rinehart's company and noted that Rinehart supports the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Olympic swimmers.
Hanson said Western Australia generates one in six dollars of national economic output and nearly half of the country's exported goods. She pointed to Perth's rental vacancy rate of 0.6 percent and attributed housing shortages to federal migration policy.
She stated that Australia's population grew by more than 400,000 last year while about 173,000 homes were completed. Hanson said the federal government added almost 1.6 million people through net overseas migration over four years.
