OpenAI Acquires AI Consultancy Tomoro and Forms Deployment Unit With 19 Partners Including Goldman Sachs and SoftBank

OpenAI announced the new Deployment Company business unit on Monday. The unit includes the acquisition of applied AI consulting firm Tomoro and is a partnership with 19 investment and consultancy firms including Bain, Goldman Sachs and SoftBank. The OpenAI Deployment Company is majority-owned and controlled by OpenAI.

The Tomoro acquisition will bring about 150 engineers specializing in deploying frontier AI models into OpenAI. These forward-deployed engineers will help businesses with AI adoption. Denise Dresser, OpenAI's Chief Revenue Officer, said Monday that the company is at a "tipping point" in enterprise artificial intelligence adoption.

Dresser told CNBC that forward-deployed engineers can sit with an organization, sit with their users, understand the workflow, and then help them take that capability from their back-office applications, connecting it to the model, and then really building intelligence in terms of each of the workflow.

Dresser, who was previously CEO at Slack, was hired as OpenAI's chief revenue officer in December. Cnbc reported that her comments come as the race for enterprise customers heats up.

Anthropic is the leader in the race for enterprise customers. Google is a player in the enterprise AI space with Gemini. 5 billion firm aimed at tackling faster AI adoption across hundreds of companies.

The new Deployment Company structure will allow OpenAI to build product service, product market, and product at speed and scale, Dresser stated.
