OpenAI has not held pre-IPO meetings with investors to discuss pricing and demand and has not outlined an official timeline for a public listing, cnbc.com reported. The company confidentially filed its prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this month. The New York Times reported on Thursday that OpenAI is leaning toward an IPO in 2027.

Sources familiar with the plans said meetings to test investor interest will likely begin once the company has a better sense of timing. Chief executive Sam Altman told CNBC earlier this month that OpenAI will IPO when it makes sense. "I think there is a race to deliver the best technology and build the best business, but, you know, going public is a financing event, and I don't think that's one that we're focused on the timing of," Altman said.

OpenAI's chief rival Anthropic has also confidentially filed its prospectus with regulators but has not disclosed an official timeline. The developments follow the recent debut of SpaceX earlier this month.
