Osaka defeats top-ranked Sabalenka in Wimbledon fourth round

Naomi Osaka defeated No. 1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 7-6(2) in the Wimbledon fourth round on Sunday. The match took place on Centre Court. Osaka took a 5-1 lead in the second-set tiebreak before closing out the victory.

Match background Sabalenka had won all three prior meetings with Osaka this season. She entered the match with a 21-match tiebreak winning streak at majors. Osaka had never defeated a top-10 player on a non-hard-court surface before this match.

Player comments "It's been a long time since I've had so much fun on the court and to do it here it really means a lot," Osaka said after the match. Sabalenka told reporters she did not play her best tennis. Osaka reached the quarterfinals after making her first grass-court final the previous week at Bad Homburg.
