Jorge Rangel, 50, owns Osito and has taken the dog on his daily delivery rounds for the past two years. The pair travels on a specially adapted cargo bicycle with Osito seated in a back compartment. Rangel adopted Osito during a difficult period in his life.
“I didn’t know what it meant to love an animal until Osito came into my life,” he said. Rangel said the dog protests by barking if left behind. “More than a dog, he’s my daily companion,” Rangel stated.
Rangel prepared for weeks, gathering accessories and fitting sunglasses to the dog before the tournament. “He has a very gentle temperament. Everybody wants to meet him,” Rangel said. Children rush to greet Osito on the street, and some passersby initially mistake him for a stuffed animal because he sits so still.
Rangel described the public response as exceeding expectations. “It exceeded all my expectations,” he said. As of June 19, 2026, videos of Osito continue to circulate and requests for photographs remain constant.
Each morning Rangel and Osito return to their delivery route through Mexico City.
