Patrick Ewing joins Washington Wizards as assistant coach

Patrick Ewing has agreed to become an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards and head coach Brian Keefe, sources told ESPN on Saturday. Ewing had been serving in an ambassador role with the Knicks for the past two seasons. The move returns him to an NBA coaching staff.

Prior roles Ewing previously served as head coach at Georgetown from 2017 to 2023. His tenure there included a Big East Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021, followed by a combined 13 wins over the next two seasons. In October 2024, Ewing returned to the Knicks as a basketball ambassador assisting both basketball and business operations.

He stated at the time that he would always be a Knick and a New Yorker.

Knicks tenure and recent success Ewing played 15 seasons with the Knicks after being selected with the No. 1 pick in the 1985 draft. He remains the franchise's career leader in points, rebounds, blocks, steals and games played. During his two years back with the Knicks in an ambassador capacity, the team advanced to the Eastern Conference finals and later won the championship.

Ewing told The Post's Steve Serby before the Finals that he felt like part of the run because former players were included.
