Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes returned to the field Tuesday for the team's first organized team activity practice, his first appearance with teammates since surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee. The practice took place in Kansas City and remained closed to reporters. The Chiefs posted video showing Mahomes making a throw while wearing a brace on his left knee.

Mahomes suffered the injury late in a December 14 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He underwent surgery on December 15. Prior to Tuesday's session, the only public footage of him throwing since the operation came from a four-second Instagram video posted in late March. In that clip, Mahomes executed a five-step dropback inside a training gym.
The Chiefs' first open practice for reporters is scheduled for Thursday. Coach Andy Reid noted earlier this month that Phase 2 of the offseason program involves no contact and no offense-versus-defense work. >"Phase 2 [of the offseason program], remember, there's no contact and there's no offense versus defense.

Throughout his recovery, Mahomes has worked regularly inside the Chiefs' training facility, most often with athletic trainer Julie Frymyer. Frymyer has assisted him through previous injuries during his nine-year career. Mahomes increased his workout intensity in recent weeks, which enabled his participation in Tuesday's practice.
