Pennsylvania Primaries Test Four Republican House Seats in 2026 Midterms
Primaries on Tuesday selected Democratic challengers for four Republican-held U.S. House districts in Pennsylvania. The contests center on affordability and economic concerns ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Brian Fitzpatrick in the 1st District, Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in the 7th District, Rep. Rob Bresnahan in the 8th District, and Rep. Scott Perry in the 10th District. Democratic challengers are Bob Harvie in the 1st, Bob Brooks in the 7th, Paige Cognetti in the 8th, and Janelle Stelson in the 10th.

05 million voted for Lt. Gov. Austin Davis. On the Republican side, gubernatorial nominee Stacy Garrity received 637,899 votes and lieutenant governor nominee Jason Richey received 426,323 votes. Pennsylvania maintains closed primaries, so unaffiliated voters could not participate. 4 million independents were registered in the state.
Democrats argue that economic anxiety and affordability issues could affect the House races. Jeff Le of 100 Mile Strategies said the Republican freshmen face narrow margins and that Rep. Perry could be vulnerable against Stelson. 7 billion fund and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. He has also criticized aspects of the administration's approach to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The 7th District race is expected to focus on manufacturing decline, warehouse growth, and housing costs. The 8th District contest between Bresnahan and Cognetti is projected to be among the most expensive House races nationally. Political analyst James Christopher said Democrats can compete in the 1st District if they emphasize local representation and cost-of-living issues rather than national ideology.
Cognetti, mayor of Scranton, has positioned herself as willing to challenge her own party on local priorities.
