Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper said Monday he did not know how FanDuel would use a personalized video he recorded for a customer. " He added that he did not consent to the video's use in a VIP promotion and would not have made it if he had known FanDuel's intent or the customer's betting habits.
lawsuit details The Philadelphia Inquirer published portions of the video last Thursday. " Customer Terry Thompson sued FanDuel, VIP host Bryttanni Morgan, DraftKings, the NFL, and Genius Sports in March. The suit claims the sportsbooks caused him to become addicted, resulting in about $2 million in betting losses, and alleges Morgan offered gifts and tickets to encourage larger wagers.
responses Major League Baseball's collective bargaining agreement permits players to do promotions with sportsbooks if they do not authorize use of their name, image, or likeness or promote baseball betting. FanDuel referred to a prior statement saying its employees are trained to flag signs of problem gambling and offer resources.
Major League Baseball and the MLBPA declined comment. A Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board spokesperson told ESPN the board is reviewing the matter.
