Cristopher Sánchez ended a streak of 50⅔ consecutive scoreless innings when Jackson Merrill hit a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning. The Philadelphia Phillies left-hander had thrown 663 pitches and faced 190 batters without allowing a run since late April.

More than 40,000 fans at Citizens Bank Park stood and applauded for over a minute after the run scored. Sánchez raised his cap and wiped his forehead before throwing the next pitch. "It was a big moment, a huge moment for me," Sánchez said through an interpreter.

He improved to 7-2 with a 1.46 ERA, the lowest in Major League Baseball. J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber hit home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Phillies a 3-2 victory. Sánchez was named National League pitcher of the month for May earlier the same day.
