Pitcher returns from injured list, allows two runs in 4 1/3 innings

A right-handed pitcher made his first start after missing more than two weeks with a hip contusion and allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings. The pitcher threw 82 pitches, gave up three hits and two walks, and recorded six strikeouts. An interim manager described the outing as "really solid" aside from one pitch that resulted in a two-run home run.

Roster moves follow start The team optioned a 24-year-old starter to Triple-A the day after that pitcher held an opponent to one run in six innings. Officials said the move was made to keep the bullpen intact for an upcoming game without a traditional starter.

The optioned pitcher had begun the season at Double-A and received a promotion after five starts. The interim manager said he expects the pitcher to return. A veteran infielder began another rehabilitation assignment as the designated hitter. The player had been placed on the injured list in April with a wrist contusion and has also dealt with ankle soreness and Achilles bursitis.

An infielder was outrighted to Triple-A.
