Planned Parenthood Action Fund Launches $2 Million Effort to Block Medicaid Funding Cut for Its Clinics

Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced on Friday a $2 million investment to target nine vulnerable House Republicans in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania. The Hill reported that the spending will support digital advertising and on-the-ground efforts urging constituents to contact lawmakers and oppose any legislation making the defunding permanent.
The targeted members are Reps.
Juan Ciscomani and Dave Schweikert of Arizona, Gabe Evans of Colorado, Bill Huizenga and Tom Barrett of Michigan, Brian Fitzpatrick and Ryan Mackenzie of Pennsylvania, Mike Lawler of New York and Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa. The new outlay expands a $1.5 million campaign the group announced in April.
A provision in last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act blocked Planned Parenthood health centers from billing Medicaid for non-abortion services such as contraception and cancer screenings.
The Hill reported that the change caused the organization to lose more than $700 million annually in Medicaid funding. The provision expires July 4. In other healthcare developments, the CDC raised its Ebola response to the highest level Friday because of the outbreak in Congo and Uganda.
