Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena cleared 5.85 meters to finish second at the Meeting Madrid in Spain on July 16. Germany's Bo Kanda Lita Baehre won the event with a personal-best 5.90 meters. Portugal's Pedro Buaro also cleared 5.85 meters and took bronze on countback.
Performance details Obiena skipped 5.90 meters and attempted 5.95 meters three times without success. The 5.85-meter clearance is his highest since recording 5.90 meters at the 2024 Paris Games. Obiena has cleared at least 5.80 meters in his last three meets. He cleared 5.81 meters for fourth place in Athens and 5.80 meters for sixth place in Hungary.
Upcoming schedule The Asian Games will be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4. Obiena is the defending champion after winning the event in 2022.
