Police and Child Services Found No Danger After Removing Buttigieg Twins on False Report

Authorities temporarily removed Pete Buttigieg's 4-year-old twins from their Traverse City, Michigan home after an anonymous report accused him of posing a danger to children. The children were taken to their grandparents' house for 24 hours while Buttigieg was interviewed by police and Children's Protective Services. Michigan State Police stated the report was false.

The anonymous caller alleged that Buttigieg had committed violent crimes, claiming he had told a woman at a conference years ago in Alabama that he had committed unspeakable violent crimes. Buttigieg stated he has never been to the town in Alabama where the woman claimed she met him.

A police officer told him the officer believed the report was politically motivated and would not be referred to a prosecutor. Nothing in the forensic interview with the children led to concerns, according to Buttigieg. The incident occurred shortly after Buttigieg posted family photos on social media for Father's Day.

He and his husband Chasten adopted the boy-girl twins in 2021. Buttigieg described the separation as among the darkest hours of his life in a Substack post. He said he will pursue civil or criminal charges if the perpetrator can be found.
