Police Release Bodycam Footage of 2001 Murder Suspect Interview

Northern Territory police released bodycam footage of an interview with the man convicted of killing British backpacker Peter Falconio. The footage was issued ahead of the 25th anniversary of the July 2001 disappearance. The video shows officers questioning the suspect about the location of the remains. The suspect, dressed in a green prison jumper, repeatedly stated he had no information.

Falconio was shot on a remote stretch of highway near Barrow Creek, about 186 miles north of Alice Springs. His girlfriend, Joanne Lees, escaped after being bound with cable ties. The suspect was convicted in December 2005 of murder, assault, and attempted kidnap. DNA evidence linked him to the crime.

Police said the force remains committed to bringing the investigation to its fullest conclusion. A spokesperson said thoughts remain with the Falconio family and Lees. Officials urged anyone with information about the location of the remains to contact police. They said no piece of information is too small.
