Polymarket Files to Offer Parlay Contracts on U.S. Sports Events

Prediction market platform Polymarket filed a self-certification notice with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Wednesday to list parlay-style contracts on sports events. The filing describes the products as "combinatorial outcome contracts" that combine two or more underlying contracts. 00. 00 regardless of the outcomes of any remaining unsettled legs.

Atkins noted that ETF assets have tripled in the past seven years and that novel products raise novel questions. The SEC does not directly oversee prediction markets. Atkins instructed staff to gather public comments while fund sponsors have delayed effectiveness of several event contract ETFs.

State regulators and gambling firms have argued that sports-related prediction markets infringe on states' rights to regulate and tax gambling products. The CFTC maintains that these products fall under its oversight pursuant to the Commodity Exchange Act.

Polymarket stated it would list the new contracts no earlier than May 21, 2026. A second filing requested confidential treatment for an exhibit citing possible trade secrets or commercial information.
