Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visited the National Meteorological and Satellite Center at the Korea Meteorological Administration in Seoul on June 5 to review the agency's readiness to issue weather advisories. He received a briefing on summer conditions and new measures designed to limit damage from expected heavy rains and heat waves.

The Korea Meteorological Administration reported that South Korea will experience higher temperatures and heavier rains than usual this summer.

M. m. the following day.

Emergency text messages will be sent to residents when rainfall exceeds 100 millimeters per hour. The agency also plans to shorten the interval between a major earthquake and an emergency text message from the current 5-10 seconds to 3-5 seconds. Kim asked the agency to strengthen cooperation with other government agencies.

He said the tropical night advisory and related measures should improve protection for the elderly and other vulnerable groups, according to his office. Kim smiled during the visit, Yonhap reported.
