New Prime Minister Han Seong-sook ordered ministries and agencies to implement measures against expected heavy rain in southern areas. Han, who took office earlier Wednesday, instructed officials to verify evacuation routes and safety protocols for residents in vulnerable zones, the prime minister's office said.
The same instructions directed stepped-up monitoring of at-risk locations and preemptive evacuations or access restrictions if conditions worsen.
Weather services forecast downpours for southern parts of the country, including the island of Jeju. Han gave the directives during her first day after receiving her appointment letter from President Lee Jae Myung.
