Helion Energy signed a binding power purchase agreement with Microsoft Corp. three years earlier that requires delivery of at least 50 megawatts from a commercial fusion plant by 2028.
The agreement includes potential financial penalties from Microsoft and Constellation Energy if the deadline is missed. Constellation Energy will manage transmission from the reactor to the grid. Helion broke ground on its first commercial-scale facility, Orion, in Malaga, Washington, in 2025.
