The Los Angeles Rams acquired Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns on Monday in a trade that sent outside linebacker Jared Verse and three future draft picks to Cleveland. The package included a first-round selection in 2027, a second-round pick in 2028 and a third-round pick in 2029. Coach Sean McVay said the team wanted to be aggressive because such opportunities are uncommon.

Background on the Trade McVay compared the deal to the 2021 acquisition of quarterback Matthew Stafford. He said the Rams initially offered only draft picks before the Browns required Verse to be included. Garrett said he learned the trade was possible about a week earlier and had to decide whether to waive his no-trade clause. He described the move as a chance to win immediately.

Garrett said the decision was difficult and that he holds affection for Cleveland. He added that winning has always been the priority. McVay said the hardest part of the trade was sending Verse, who was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year for the 2024 season. Browns general manager Andrew Berry stated he did not seriously consider trading Garrett until Verse was part of the return.
