A ransomware group released data it says came from a contractor at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. The company confirmed a partial breach on a third-party server and notified authorities.
A ransomware group calling itself World Leaks posted a large set of files on the dark web that it said relate to India’s largest nuclear power plant. The files include purported blueprints of parts of the facility and supplier details. The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant is located in Tamil Nadu and is the biggest of India’s seven nuclear plants.
It plays a central role in the country’s plans to increase atomic energy capacity.
The company that serves as one of the plant’s contractors stated that a partial breach occurred on a server hosted by third-party data center provider Yotta. It said the government has been informed. The ransomware group labeled the material as coming from the Reliance Group. No official confirmation of the data’s origin or completeness has been issued by authorities.
Indian officials have not released a public statement on the incident. The plant has faced past security concerns, though no connection to the current data exposure has been established. The contractor’s statement did not specify the volume of data taken or whether any operational systems were affected.
