Federico Valverde was taken to hospital with a head trauma after an altercation with Aurélien Tchouaméni during a training session at the club's Valdebebas facility. Real Madrid opened disciplinary proceedings against both players and said Valverde has been diagnosed with a head injury requiring 10 to 14 days of rest.
Federico Valverde was taken to hospital with a head trauma after an altercation with teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni at Real Madrid training on Thursday. The club later said Valverde, the team captain, was discharged and diagnosed with a head injury. He will need to rest for between 10 and 14 days.
Real Madrid stated that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against both Valverde and Tchouaméni. The club said it will announce the outcomes once internal procedures are completed. A spokesperson declined to comment on events inside the changing room.
Valverde posted a statement on social media apologizing to the club and its supporters. He said that during an argument he had accidentally knocked over a table. He denied that things got out of hand with a teammate. The incident prompted an emergency meeting attended by senior club officials.
No players left the training ground for more than an hour. The meeting aimed to address tensions within the squad.
"Following tests carried out today on our player Fede Valverde by Real Madrid's medical team, he has been diagnosed with a head trauma," the club said in a statement. The teams are scheduled to meet at Camp Nou on Sunday. The club has not won a trophy this season following a Champions League quarter-final exit.
