Former reality television personality Spencer Pratt is running for mayor of Los Angeles in the June 2 primary. The 42-year-old registered Republican is campaigning as an independent and has drawn national attention for his outsider message. Pratt rose to fame in the early 2000s on the series "The Hills," where he was portrayed as a disruptive figure.

" After the series ended, he earned a political science degree from the University of Southern California and raised two children.

The campaign has centered on the early 2025 Los Angeles wildfires that destroyed more than 10,000 structures, including Pratt's home in the Pacific Palisades. Pratt launched his bid on January 7 at a rally where he criticized local leadership for mishandling fire preparedness.

He has released personal videos showing the loss of his family's home and belongings. Supporters have produced additional videos depicting the city as a post-disaster landscape. Pratt told ABC News in March that he is "one trillion percent" on a "crusade" for change.

In a May 6 debate among the three leading candidates, Pratt described himself as the "adult in the room" and emphasized common sense. He has positioned his campaign against the record of current officeholders on issues including homelessness, housing, and crime.

Public figures including Kristin Cavallari, Paris Hilton, Adam Carolla, and Joe Rogan have expressed support. President Donald Trump told reporters on May 20 that he had heard Pratt is "a big MAGA person" and added, "I'd like to see him do well. " Pratt has faced questions about his living situation after a May report stated he had stayed at the Hotel Bel-Air for over a month.

He responded that he had never claimed to live in a trailer and asked why coverage focused on the hotel rather than the reason he needed one.

Angeles has not elected a Republican mayor since 1997. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote on June 2, the top two finishers will advance to a November general election. Pratt is one of more than 10 candidates in the primary field.
