yardbarker.comThe Boston Red Sox replaced manager Alex Cora with Chad Tracy a few weeks before June 8, 2026. The club entered the 2026 season expecting a managerial change to improve results and reach the playoffs. Instead, the team continued to face inconsistency in its record.
Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow addressed the recent stretch when he spoke to The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey. “I certainly wouldn’t look back at our win-loss record over the last month and say it was this incredible success,” Breslow said. ” Alex Cora guided the Red Sox to a World Series championship during multiple seasons as manager and compiled a winning record across several of those years.
The team fired him suddenly. Cora spoke publicly about the change for the first time in comments to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. “Chad has always been there for me,” Cora said. ” Cora and Tracy remained in contact after the firing.
Cora said the continued connection reflects baseball norms. “It’s what we do,” he told Rosenthal. “We are a fraternity, I learned that at a young age, and you have to pay it forward. ” Tracy’s father, Jim Tracy, managed Cora during his playing career with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Cora spent multiple seasons leading Boston before the dismissal.
