Red Sox Outright Right-Hander to Triple-A Worcester

The move gives the pitcher the choice of accepting the assignment or electing free agency. Boston signed the player to a minor-league contract in mid-March.

The pitcher recorded an 8.00 ERA over eight appearances and nine innings before being designated for assignment earlier this week. He allowed at least one run in each of his last four outings and issued more walks than strikeouts during his time with the team.

The contract included a May 1 upward-mobility clause and a June 1 opt-out clause that became moot after the Red Sox selected the pitcher to the active roster. The player has more than five years of major-league service time and will retain a $1.5 million guaranteed salary even if he elects free agency.

A new team would owe only a prorated minimum salary for any time spent on the 26-man roster, with that amount subtracted from what Boston owes for the remainder of the 2026 season.
