Red Sox President Calls 2026 Season Embarrassing, Says Breslow Not Being Considered for Removal
Sam Kennedy said the team's 27-39 record and last-place standing are unacceptable. He ruled out any change at chief baseball officer while signaling possible roster sales if results do not improve soon.
yardbarker.comBoston Red Sox president Sam Kennedy described the club's 2026 performance as "embarrassing and unacceptable" during a Thursday interview on WEEI. 5 games behind the final wild-card position. Kennedy said the results fall far short of the organization's goal of building on its playoff appearance the previous season.
"There's no way to sugarcoat it," he told WEEI. "It's been awful, especially when you consider the stated goal of building upon what happened last season (when Boston made the playoffs). It's been incredibly frustrating, and I just want to acknowledge that right at the outset.
The Red Sox dismissed manager Alex Cora on April 25. Kennedy stated that move has not produced the turnaround the front office sought. Kennedy addressed questions about chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, whose trades, signings, and injury communications have drawn fan criticism.
He said no consideration has been given to removing Breslow. "Look, I fully understand and appreciate questions regarding Craig Breslow and his job security and all that, but the issue of a change there, just to be clear, that's not even on the table," Kennedy said. " Kennedy indicated the roster itself could change.
He said discussions are underway across every area of player personnel. If results do not improve "over the next couple weeks," he said the club will likely become sellers before the August trade deadline. "Unless things change dramatically, we may have to pivot here from what our initial planning was," Kennedy stated.
ESPN reported the remarks and the team's standing as of June 11, 2026.
