Retailers Outline Price-Match Policies for Electronics Purchases

Several large electronics and video-game retailers publish formal price-match policies that let buyers request a refund or store credit if the same item sells for less at a competing store within a set window after purchase. The policies aim to reduce the number of returns that occur when shoppers locate a lower price days or weeks later.

Best Buy states that it will match a lower price from another retailer if the item is identical, including model number and condition, and the competing offer is presented within 15 days of the original purchase. The policy covers most consumer electronics and appliances but excludes marketplace sellers and auction sites.

GameStop offers a 7-day price-match window on new and pre-owned video games and consoles when the lower price appears at another authorized retailer. The company requires proof of the competing price and limits matches to in-stock items sold by the same retailer.

Other national chains maintain similar but shorter windows, typically ranging from 7 to 30 days, and restrict matches to identical products sold by brick-and-mortar competitors. Customers must usually present the original receipt and documentation of the lower price to receive an adjustment.
