A reviewer who drives a 2018 Toyota Corolla without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto tested 15 car phone holders over the past year. The goal was to identify mounts that deliver GPS navigation and hands-free calling through a smartphone while the vehicle is in motion.
Three products performed best across different mounting locations and price points. Each was evaluated for stability on bumpy roads, ease of phone attachment, and charging performance.
The ESR Qi2 Wireless Car Charger With CryoBoost ranked first. It attaches to air vents with a clamp and includes an optional adhesive dashboard mount. The device uses Qi2 wireless charging and a built-in fan that kept phones from overheating during highway drives on the New Jersey Turnpike.
The mount maintained position after repeated use and allowed one-handed phone placement and removal. A minor indentation appeared on the vent housing after months of continuous attachment. The unit does not include a 12-volt power adapter.
The iOttie Easy One Touch Wireless 2 Dash/Windshield Mount uses a suction cup and pivoting arm that rotates 270 degrees. It supports both dashboard and windshield attachment and features automatic side arms that close when a phone is placed on the holder.
