The feature called Build converts text prompts into basic games with mechanics, environments, characters, visuals, and sound. It launches in public alpha on July 28 in New Zealand for verified users aged nine and older.
The VergeRoblox will let users create games using AI directly inside its mobile app through a new feature called Build. The tool converts text prompts into basic games that include gameplay mechanics, environment, characters, visual style, and sound. Build runs on a combination of Roblox’s own AI models and open-source models.
The Verge reported that the company positions the feature for rapid exploration of ideas while applying the same retention-based ranking criteria used for all other experiences on the platform. Games made with Build will initially be playable globally by users aged 16 and older. A base-level version will be free, with additional paid options for power users to be detailed later.
The public alpha begins July 28, 2026, for users in New Zealand who are at least nine years old and have verified their ages. Roblox plans to expand the feature to more regions in the coming months, according to spokesperson Juliet Chaitin-Lefcourt. Roblox is also developing new AI agents for developers that will work in both Build and its Studio tool.
These include a playtesting agent, an analytics agent, and an agent that runs experiments to improve engagement, retention, and monetization. The agents are scheduled to ship over the coming months. Roblox states that its discovery systems will not promote games with low retention, including AI-generated content.
