Rookies score 28 and 15 points in summer league debuts

Darryn Peterson scored 28 points and Cameron Boozer added 15 points in their first summer league games Saturday. Peterson made 11 of 21 shots in 27 minutes and finished with eight turnovers as his team won 103-102 in overtime. Boozer shot 7 of 11 in 24 minutes, adding four rebounds and four assists in a 111-74 victory.

Opening sequences Both players scored on their first possessions.

Peterson drove past a defender for a layup. Boozer caught a pass in the paint, returned it on a give-and-go, and completed a two-hand dunk.

Context and comments Peterson said he had trained hard since his college season ended and called wearing a Jazz jersey an honor. Boozer said the adjustment to a new team and system felt comfortable after one week of practice. Jazz coach Will Hardy noted the expectations surrounding Peterson and said he played within the group and picked his spots well.

Scouts at the venue were impressed with Boozer's passing. Peterson, selected second overall, and Boozer, taken third, will face each other Monday.
