Royals Beat Cardinals 6-5 as Bobby Witt Jr. Sits With MCL Sprain
Kansas City placed Bobby Witt Jr. out of Friday's lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals after he suffered a mild knee injury the previous night. The team won 6-5 without him.

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. was out of the lineup for Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals with a Grade 1 MCL sprain. He left Thursday's game at the end of the fourth inning after fielding a ground ball.
The Royals defeated the Cardinals 6-5. Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro said the team was fortunate the injury was only a mild sprain. "It just could have been a lot worse," Quatraro said. The plan had been to give Witt Friday off regardless.
The teams have a scheduled off day on Saturday because a World Cup match between Ecuador and Curaçao will be played at GEHA Field at Arrowhead. Quatraro said he was hopeful Witt could return for Sunday's game. "We'll reevaluate the timeline come Sunday," Quatraro said.
"So we'll see. I know they can put a brace on it. It's going to be [getting] the swelling out of there and understand how he feels.
