Royce Lewis, Brooks Lee Hit Eighth-Inning Homers in Twins' 9-8 Win Over Cardinals

Royce Lewis and Brooks Lee hit consecutive home runs in the eighth inning to give the Minnesota Twins a 9-8 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday in Minneapolis. Lewis led off the bottom of the eighth by driving the first pitch he saw over the left-field wall, tying the score at 8-8.
Two batters later, Lee hit a towering home run to right field that put Minnesota ahead by one run. Jose Fermin had given the Cardinals an 8-7 lead earlier in the eighth with an RBI infield single. Anthony Banda (2-0) recorded the final two outs of the inning for the Twins.
Andrew Morris pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his second save. Ryne Stanek (2-1) allowed three runs in 1 1/3 innings for St. Louis. Kody Clemens hit a three-run home run for Minnesota in the seventh inning that tied the game at 7-7.
Byron Buxton hit two doubles and a solo home run. Jordan Walker hit a three-run double and Alec Burleson homered and drove in two runs for the Cardinals. Burleson also drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning.
The Cardinals took a 3-1 lead after the second inning on RBI singles from Blaze Jordan and JJ Wetherholt. Alec Burleson hit a solo home run in the first inning.
Victor Caratini doubled and Tristan Gray hit an infield single in the fifth inning, and Royce Lewis hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Josh Bell hit an RBI double in the sixth inning. The Twins took a 4-3 lead after the sixth.
The Cardinals scored four runs in the seventh inning to lead 7-4 before the Twins tied the game in the bottom of the inning. The game was the opener of a three-game series. The Twins recorded their second victory in their last six games.
