Runner Uses Smartphone Game to Train for First Marathon at Age 56

A 56-year-old runner training for his first marathon turned to the smartphone game Zombies, Run! when comedian Ben Elton's material failed to distract from physical discomfort. The runner described himself as an older participant among younger competitors focused on race positions and personal records.

He stated that the game placed him ahead because he was being pursued by virtual zombies rather than racing against other participants. Depression affected the runner around his most recent birthday. He reported feeling he had not achieved notable accomplishments for an extended period and had previously exercised before work demands reduced his activity.

The runner decided to address both his mental state and physical inactivity by committing to complete a marathon for the first time.
