Russia Fires 41 Missiles at Kyiv and Dnipro, Killing at Least 23 as Many Penetrate Ukrainian Defenses

Russia launched 41 missiles at Ukraine on the morning of June 2, 2026, including 33 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and eight Zircon cruise missiles. The overnight barrage killed at least 23 people and wounded more than 100, according to Ukraine's State Emergency Service. The brunt of the attack hit Kyiv and Dnipro.

Five people died in Kyiv and 15 died in Dnipro. Iskander-M and Zircon missiles rank among the most effective at penetrating Kyiv's air defenses. Only PAC-3 interceptor missiles, deployed on Patriot systems, have proven capable of shooting down these weapons among systems supplied to Ukraine.

PAC-3 missiles are produced by Lockheed Martin at a rate of about 50 per month. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack showed that strikes would continue without stronger protection. "The massive overnight attack is a perfectly clear statement from Russia: If Ukraine is not protected from ballistic and other missile strikes, these attacks will continue," he stated on his Telegram channel.

Zelensky urged Western allies to supply more missile interceptors. The Russian army used hypersonic projectiles in the June 2 attack.
