The Kyiv region was struck overnight into Sunday by hundreds of drones and missiles. Ukrainian air defenses reported destroying or jamming 549 drones and 55 missiles out of 600 drones and 90 missiles launched. A five-story residential building in Kyiv’s Shevchenko district caught fire after being hit, killing one person.

A school building sheltering people was also damaged, along with supermarkets and warehouses.

Russia used an Oreshnik hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile in the strikes. Officials said the weapon had previously been used against Dnipro in November 2024 and the Lviv region in January. Damage was recorded at 40 locations across several districts of the capital, with fires continuing into the morning.

At least four people died and more than 80 were injured in the attacks. The strikes followed an earlier incident in which a student dormitory in Russian-occupied Starobilsk was hit. The head of Kyiv’s military administration and the mayor reported the extent of the destruction.

A 55-year-old market worker said the attack destroyed her workplace and that she planned to leave the city. An emergency UN Security Council meeting was held at Russia’s request. The Ukrainian ambassador rejected accusations of war crimes and said the prior operation had targeted a military facility.
