Rusty Wallace declines Kaulig Racing Truck Series offer but accepts IROC race

Kaulig Racing contacted Rusty Wallace about driving in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series this season, the 1989 Cup champion said Sunday at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Wallace, who turns 70 on August 14, said team officials approached him at the Betty Jane France poker tournament and asked him to compete. He turned down the request.
The team has already fielded several retired drivers for one-off Truck Series appearances this year, including Jamie McMurray, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, Ryan Newman and Elliott Sadler. Sadler is set to drive for Kaulig in an upcoming event. , on August 14.
The event runs as a companion to the NTT IndyCar Series Freedom 250 that same day. His IROC field includes Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, Bobby Labonte, Bill Elliott, Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan and Dario Franchitti. Wallace last competed in NASCAR in 2005.
"I felt personally that I went out at the top of my game," Wallace said.
