Sabres hire Davidson as senior adviser and sign Krebs to four-year deal

The Buffalo Sabres on Monday announced the hiring of John Davidson as senior adviser. Davidson, 73, spent 18 seasons as president of hockey operations for three NHL teams. He previously hired the Sabres' current general manager as general manager of the Columbus team.
"I am excited to join the Buffalo Sabres and look forward to the opportunity to help the organization in any way I can," Davidson said. " Earlier Monday, the Sabres signed Peyton Krebs to a four-year, $18 million contract. The 25-year-old forward set career highs with 12 goals and 27 assists last season.
Krebs was acquired by Buffalo in the trade that sent Jack Eichel to Vegas and has recorded 42 goals and 91 assists with both teams. The Sabres also traded Tyler Kopff to the Washington Capitals for prospect Zac Funk.
Kopff, 23, split last season between the same two leagues. The Sabres reached the Eastern Conference semifinals last season after a 14-season playoff drought.
