Satou Sabally Joins New York Liberty After Concussion Recovery
Forward Satou Sabally signed a two-year, $1.67 million contract with the New York Liberty in April after missing time due to a concussion sustained in last season's WNBA Finals. She has appeared in limited minutes while regaining fitness and the Liberty have won five straight games.
CBS SportsSatou Sabally signed with the New York Liberty on a two-year, $1.67 million contract after completing concussion recovery protocols. The 6-foot-4 forward had been traded to the Phoenix Mercury before the 2024 season and reached the WNBA Finals with that team.
The injury occurred in Game 3 of the 2024 Finals against the Las Vegas Aces. Sabally was diagnosed with a concussion, missed Game 4, and later sat out the Unrivaled league season while symptoms persisted.
Sabally said the recovery period prompted reflection on priorities. "This concussion just made me slow everything else down in my life and really put into perspective what I really needed and wanted," she told CBS Sports. She shaved her head in March to support a friend with alopecia and has worn bold red lipstick during games this season.
Sabally has started the season coming off the bench while working back to full strength. The Liberty are on a five-game winning streak. Sabally has played in several games after missing five earlier this season due to a cyst and illness.
