Schauffele Posts 66 in Round Two at Shinnecock Hills

Xander Schauffele recorded a 4-under 66 in Friday morning's second round at Shinnecock Hills. The round moved him to 3 under par for the tournament and placed him on the first page of the leaderboard. Schauffele hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation. He made one bogey at the par-5 fifth hole and one birdie on an unlikely putt after that bogey.

Schauffele said the round required patience and steady shot-making. He added that U.S. Opens test endurance over four rounds and reward consistent play between holes. The two-time major winner has finished no lower than 15th in prior U.S. Opens, including his first appearance at Erin Hills after qualifying.

Schauffele missed the Tour Championship for the first time in 2025 after a rib injury kept him out for several months. He said the time away increased his appreciation for tournament play. He referenced a family saying, "A steady drip caves the stone," as a guiding approach during stretches without victories. Schauffele stated he remains focused on incremental progress with two rounds remaining.
