Sealed Super Mario Bros. sells for $3 million, setting new record for most expensive video game
A sealed copy of the 1985 Nintendo game fetched $3 million at Heritage Auctions, surpassing the prior $1.56 million record set by a sealed Super Mario 64 in 2021.
nypost.comA sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. sold for $3 million at Heritage Auctions, setting a new record as the most expensive video game ever sold. The copy bears the gloss sticker adopted in early 1986 and is one of only three known sealed copies from the second production run.
6 A++ grade from Professional Sports Authenticator. The game remained sealed in its original packaging for nearly 40 years. It was discovered a few months before the sale inside a brand-new Control Deck NES console bundle.
The lot also included the launch-edition NES Control Deck console with which the game was originally bundled.
