Mamuka Artmeladze, 43, from the country of Georgia, was found unresponsive last week and later died at Winn Correctional Center in Louisiana. The death marks the second at the facility in less than two months. The previous death at Winn Correctional Center occurred on April 11.
Artmeladze was a detainee at the center when he was found unresponsive. Inspectors had flagged Winn Correctional Center for unsanitary conditions, poor medical care, and excessive use of force before the deaths. Nineteen detainees have now died in ICE custody since January 1, 2026.
