One senator cast the lone vote against the confirmation report. The vote signals continued political caution over the management and independence of the electoral system.
Boakai nominated Weedor on March 30, 2026, days after the resignation. Weedor had been serving as Acting Chair since that date. Weedor previously worked at the commission for 16 years between 2004 and 2020, rising to Commissioner and Acting Co-Chairman. He oversaw human resources, finance, and procurement.
Statements During Confirmation "I will not preside over an institution that reacts to crises," Weedor told lawmakers. " He added that transformation of the commission requires cooperation across state and non-state actors, including the legislature, political parties, civil society, media, and the public.
The confirmation occurs as the country positions institutions ahead of the 2029 general elections.
