Political commentator Scott Jennings said Senator Mitch McConnell has met with staff and received briefings on several issues while still hospitalized. Jennings, who stated he had spoken with McConnell, said the senator plans to finish his current term. He added that McConnell is neither dead nor incapacitated.

Emergency dispatch audio later surfaced describing a call for an unconscious person at his address, with the dispatcher reporting cardiac arrest and CPR in progress. Prior health incidents McConnell has a history of health issues.
These include a February hospitalization for flu-like symptoms, a 2023 fall that caused a concussion and broken rib, and public freezing episodes an attending physician linked to concussion recovery. Jennings said on July 9 that McConnell was meeting with staff and receiving briefings that day. He noted uncertainty about whether the senator would return to work soon or eventually.
