Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has dismissed Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The secretary general of the government announced the decision during a late-night broadcast on Friday. The two men were former allies in the Patriotes Africains du Sénégal pour le Travail, l’Éthique et la Fraternité (PASTEF) party.
They had jointly defeated the former ruling party in recent elections. The dismissal follows a period of open confrontation between the president and the prime minister.
