Sharp is targeting sales of 200 billion to 300 billion yen from new businesses by fiscal 2030, its president and CEO said in an interview Friday. The company views artificial intelligence infrastructure as a key growth area. AI servers are expected to account for more than 80 percent of sales from the new businesses.
Sharp also plans to expand its satellite communications equipment business, including compact antennas. The company said it is the only entity within its parent group that maintains a globally recognized brand. On its planned entry into the electric vehicle business in fiscal 2027, the company acknowledged current market conditions but said it intends to differentiate its vehicles through high-value-added interior design.
It is also in talks with potential partners for vehicle maintenance services. The company said it plans to combine its customer reach with its parent company's execution speed to accelerate new business expansion.
