Trump Administration Announces Interim Iran Agreement; Senate Republicans Seek Briefing and Vote

Vice President JD Vance said further negotiations on a permanent end to Iran’s nuclear program are expected to take about 60 days from the initial signing. He also said a $300 billion reconstruction fund would be available to Iran if it complies with the agreement’s terms. President Trump said details of the interim agreement would be released in the coming days.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said most lawmakers, including members of the Gang of Eight who receive intelligence briefings, remain uninformed about the agreement’s contents. He added that senators will have many questions once they receive a briefing.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer noted repeated past statements that the war was over and said divergent administration comments make the details critical. President Trump said he would consider sending the final deal to lawmakers for a congressional vote.
Senate Republicans have stated that any final accord should be submitted for a congressional vote to ensure it cannot be reversed by a future administration the way the previous agreement was.
