Similarly Named Dan Sullivans Face Off in Alaska Republican Senate Primary

Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan’s re-election campaign accused Mary Peltola and Democrats in Washington of recruiting a candidate who shares the senator’s first and last name. The challenger, Dan J. Sullivan, announced his candidacy last week and is registered as a Republican with Alaska’s Division of Elections.

Nate Adams, spokesman for Sen. Dan S. C. ” Dan J. Sullivan describes himself as an elementary school teacher and cancer survivor. ” The two candidates’ campaign logos both feature stars and use navy blue, white and yellow.

Their middle initials differ: the incumbent’s is S. and the challenger’s is J. ” The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Dan J. Sullivan’s campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

U.S. House from 2023 to 2025 and is the leading Democrat in the Senate race. Sen. Dan S. Sullivan, the Republican incumbent, is seeking a third term. Alaska uses a ranked-choice voting system in which the top four vote-getters advance to the November general election regardless of party.

The primary is scheduled for August 18. m. ET clarified that Dan Sullivan is the former mayor of Anchorage, not the current mayor.
