Singer announces October concert near Washington

Singer Bruce Springsteen announced plans for a music event while performing at Nationals Park on Wednesday. The announcement came during a nationwide tour stop. Springsteen said the event, called the Power to the People Festival, will feature performances by Tom Morello, the Dave Matthews Band, and Foo Fighters. He stated that the concert will serve as another night of music and resistance.

Event details The festival is scheduled for October 3 at Merriweather Post Pavilion. Tickets start at $125 for general admission. A $1,500 VIP package includes access to a suite and concierge service. A portion of VIP proceeds will go to VoteRiders and HeadCount. VoteRiders works to remove identification requirements for voting. HeadCount has registered more than 1.7 million voters since 2004.

Statements from performers Springsteen dedicated a song to two individuals who died in January after encounters with immigration enforcement officers. Morello said those deaths prompted the decision to organize the festival. Springsteen said elected leaders have failed citizens and called on the audience to act.
